IP is a protocol that allows multiple networks to communicate with each other so that they can communicate with each other, and by using this IP, an open network formed by interconnecting networks managed by various organizations worldwide is called the Internet.

TCP is a protocol used on the basis of IP as its foundation, enabling highly reliable communication between two points on the IP network . In the upper layer of TCP, various protocols are defined according to the purpose and software. For example, HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is used on the Web, but data is transferred using HTTP for TCP and TCP for IP, respectively.

In IP networks such as the Internet, UDP rather than TCP may be used in combination with IP, but the term "TCP / IP" has a less meaning to distinguish between TCP and the others (referring to "UDP / IP" ), It often represents "a generic name for standard communication protocols centered on IP". Although such usage has been established from historical circumstances, it is sometimes said that such generic meaning should be expressed in terms such as "Internet Protocol Suite" today.
